This is Your Child’s Brain On Chiropractic – adapted from Dr. Steve Hoffman ~ The Beacon for May 24, 2012

The child’s brain is like a raw piece of clay, just waiting to be molded into something wonderful.  There are trillions of neurons just waiting to learn.  With infinite possibilities, the child’s brain begins to develop as they experience life.  The experiences and impressions on that child’s nervous system will determine if they become brilliant or slow, enthusiastic or dull.  Harry Chugani of Wayne State University states these experiences “can completely change the way a person turns out.”

More importantly there are periods of time in the child’s life when certain learning experiences are critical to the full development of the child.  Sharon Begley writes in her article, Your Child’s Brain, “once wired, there are limits to the brain’s ability to create itself.  Time limits, called “critical periods”, are like windows of opportunity that nature flings open, starting before birth, and then diminish one by one, with every additional candle on the child’s birthday cake.”  These specific “learning windows” in the brain must be nurtured and if the child receives good stimulus magical things can happen.  There are “learning windows” for math and logic (birth to 4 years) language skills (birth to 10 years), music (3 to 10 years) and emotions just to name a few.  These are periods of time in a child’s life that their brain is ripe for development.

But what if there is interference to the nervous system during these critical times?  The child has no chance of developing to their fullest potential, even with the best stimulus and experiences.  We know from research that over 80% of children are born with subluxations and nerve interference from the birth process.  And all are subject to the daily impact of being an infant or toddler like frequent falls, environmental toxins, and stresses around the home.   What do you think the impact of subluxations would have on the child’s development?  Your child only has one opportunity in life; don’t wait until it is too late to have their nervous system checked for interference.

It truly is better to grow healthier kids than repair damaged adults.

I invite you to have your child’s spine and nervous system checked sooner than later by calling The Lifehouse today at 250-740-0333.  Please forward this on to friends and co-workers and share the value and benefit of chiropractic in building a strong foundation for their children, from the inside out.

Here’s to a healthier and better world tomorrow one spine at a time.

Disease vs Health ~ The Beacon for May, 17, 2012

A wise teaching from one of my wise teachers, Dr. Peter Amlinger, to you.  Enjoy and have a safe long weekend.  Dr. Norm

“Medicine is the study of disease and what causes man to die.
Chiropractic is the study of health and what causes man to live.”

BJ Palmer, DC

This difference became very obvious to me last week.  It also became very apparent that many of our patients are not yet aware of the difference between these two professions.
I was dealing with some pretty significant congestion in my head and chest last week.  I felt like crap and I looked crappier.  On Tuesday I got adjusted three times.  This resulted in me feeling a lot better on Wednesday.  At the same time I sounded and looked a lot worse.  Many thought I should attack the germ, the sickness.  I chose to let my being bring me back to health.

It was alarming to me, as my innate brought me through this process, how many patients asked if I “had a cold.”  When I said "no", they then asked if it was allergies.  Again, I answered "no".  They then said: “but you are very congested.”

I said "YES"that I acknowledge.  I then went on to explain that I don’t label symptoms because my innate doesn’t need a label or a diagnosis, to heal me from the inside out.  It does need:

  A subluxation free nervous system,
  Quality rest (that was missing)
  Proper nutrition (oops, I chose a very “healthy” raw diet which didn’t resonate with me)
  Exercise
  Healthy positive thoughts
  Meditation

Maintaining a subluxation free nervous system and listening to your Friend Within is chiropractic.  The other things I’ve mentioned above are part of a healthy lifestyle but aren’t chiropractic.  If lacking in our life, however, we may subluxate more frequently.

Here is the deal.  Either one believes that we have an infinite power within us. An innate intelligence, that creates us, heals us and guides us through life as long as it can flow from brain to body and back without interference.  Or we don’t.

If you do and you trust this power, there is no longer a need to label processes that your being is going through.  The danger in labeling is that it leads to a desire to treat or manage the label.  I choose to focus on giving my being what it needs to create health.

Our focus is to keep you fully connected to this infinite power within you, through the adjustment, as often as you need it.  This is our passion and it is all that we do.  Nobody does it better.

Things that make you go "Hmmmm" - The Beacon ~ May 10, 2012

Dr. Corleto from Healing vs. Curing

Do you realize how boring it would be if we were all the same? Identical twins do not have the same insides not even blood chemistry. Even the ones who are actually congenital twins do not have the same physiology because they have different nerve systems which control everything.

A great example is the true story of “Masha” and “Dasha”. A new mother was told that her twin babies had died at birth. However the truth was far different: they were sent to an institute near Moscow to be studied.

This was to be the fate of “Masha” and “Dasha” one of the most unusual sets of “Siamese” or conjoined twins ever born.

Identical twins are formed when a fertilized egg divides into two eggs. The two eggs grow into new babies that are identical in every respect. Conjoined or Siamese twins are formed in the same way as identical twins but the eggs, for some reason, don’t completely separate; instead, they remain partially attached. It was the unique way in which these twins were connected that caused Soviet scientists to take such an interest in them.

Although Masha and Dasha have four arms, they have only three legs. They stand on two of their legs, one controlled by Masha, one by Dasha (they were five before they learned to walk) while the third, vestigial leg remains in the air behind them. The upper intestines are separated but they share a single lower intestine and rectum. They have four kidneys and one bladder, and often disagree on when to urinate. They have a common reproductive system.

Because their circulatory systems are interconnected, the twins share each other’s blood. Therefore, a bacterium or virus that enters one twin’s bloodstream will soon be seen in the blood of her sister. Yet surprisingly, illness affects them differently. Dasha is short-sighted, prone to colds and right handed. Masha smokes occasionally, has a healthier constitution, higher blood pressure then her sister, good eye sight and is left-handed.

The twins differing in health patterns present a mystery. Why did one become ill with childhood disease, like measles for example, while the other did not? The measles “bug” was in both of their bodies in their collective bloodstream; so why didn’t both get measles?

Evidently there is more to “getting the measles” than having the measles “bug”. This phenomenon was seen over and over again with the girls (flu, colds, and other childhood diseases were all experienced separately.) If germs alone had the power to cause infectious diseases, why would one of the twins be disease-free while the other was ill?  What was it in their makeup that differentiated one from the other?

The answer was not far to seek. Although Masha and Dasha had common circulatory, digestive, excretory, lymphatic, endocrine and skeletal systems (they were joined at the hips), they had separate spinal columns  and spinal cords. This was the only important difference between the two girls.  Brings to light just how important a properly functioning spine and nerve system truly is.

Yours in service
Dr. Norm

The Process ~ The Beacon for May 3, 2012

This week marks the start to our Innate Intensive with a kick off workshop this past Wednesday evening at the studio.   Thank you to all of you who have eagerly signed up for the intensive.  Many of you have expressed interest and for one reason or another are unable to attend the whole program.  My goal is that we can serve as many of you as possible so I thought I would give you a sneak peak to one of the powerful pieces that I shared with the group last night and encouraging people to use on a regular basis during the intensive and beyond.  The tool is simply titled “The Process” and was created by Robert Scheinfeld.  I love using “The Process” because it is easy to use and causes profound shifts as well.  I trust that you too can find use out of this powerful tool.  Enjoy.

 The truth, as I see it, is that we are all perfect and profoundly powerful beings who create our own reality.    We have through time convinced ourselves that we are otherwise.  It is less of a miracle that we are the magnificent beings and more of a miracle that we have convinced ourselves otherwise.  The first part of our lives we have spent gathering evidence to prove the illusion that we are weak, broken, and wrong.  The next part of our lives we begin remembering who we really are.  Any area in our life, thought in our mind, or pain in our body that creates discomfort is an opportunity to regain our rightful perception of ourselves and of life itself.  See the places of discomfort as opportunities to regain your wholeness.   Using “The Process” can radically help you illuminate these areas of illusion returning you to your full light.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Overview of the Process:
1)    Notice an area of yourself or your life that is causing you discomfort.
2)    Dive right smack into the middle of it – fully immerse yourself within the discomfort energy.  You may feel it as pain or vibration – be still and get right in the middle of it.
3)    Feel the discomfort energy fully.  Open up, breathe it in and feel it as fully as you possibly can.   No thinking, no logic, no intellect, no judgment, no labeling.  Just feel it, the intensity, the waves, and the raw power in it, whatever it feels like for you.
4)    Let it reach peak intensity; trust yourself that you will know when the peak intensity is.  And once it reaches the peak call it what it really is, tell the truth about it.  Affirm who you really are, how powerful you really are, that you created it, it’s not real, it is just a creation of your consciousness.  Come up with a phrase to describe the real you that resonates with you and supports you in feeling as powerful and infinite as you possibly can. Here are some possibilities:
“I am the Power and Presence of God”
“I am the Power of Infinite Intelligence”
“I am the Power of Pure Consciousness”
Once you choose a phrase add your affirmation of The Truth after it and expand the phrase.  For example “I am the Power and Presence of God creating this.  It’s not real.  It’s completely made up.  It’s a creation of my Consciousness.”
5)    After telling the truth it is important to reclaim your power from it.  Declare “I reclaim my power from this NOW!”  “As I reclaim my power, I feel it coming back to me; I feel it surging back to me.”  And really feel the energy coming back to you.
6)    Open up more and more to who you really are.  Feel what it is like to actually be infinitely powerful, infinitely wise, and infinitely abundant.  To cultivate the feelings repeat the following (or your own variation)….
“I am the Power and Presence of God creating everything I experience, everything.”
“There’s no power out there, not in anyone, not in anything.”
7)    Express appreciation for how amazing your are to be to create this and convince yourself it was real, how amazing the creation was, and how beautifully it served you up until now.
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
As with anything it is only when you practice your practice that you will really reap the bountiful rewards that are waiting for you.  And for those up for the opportunity there are still a couple of spaces to join our 30 day Innate Intensive.

Until next time may you remember who you truly are, be grateful for the illusions and find joy in "The Process".

Cheers

F.A.Q. -- Innate Intensive

Comparing my schedule to the Innate Intensive schedule I won't be able to attend all the talks and workshop evenings, can I still register?
Yes, by all means you can register and participate.  Like anything in life - you get back what you put in.  Know that each evening will be valuable and unique within the process and in their own right.
We do encourage that you attend the Intro evening Wed. May 2nd and Celebrate with us Thurs. May 31st.

What does the tracking board represent?
The hallway wall has an Innate Intensive tracking board where each registered participant will place stickers representing their connection to Body-Mind-Spirit-Alignment.  There is a box for each of the 30 days and for each category.

The ideal is that each day you will focus:
      20 minutes for Exercise/Movement   (Body)
      20 minutes for Journal-ling                 (Mind)
      20 minutes for Meditation                   (Spirit)

      & Chirorpractic Adjustments (as per recommendations)           (Alignment)

Do I need to have an adjustment every day during the Innate Intensive?
No, not every day.  For you to get the most out of care at the Lifehouse it is crucial to follow Dr. Norm's recommendation for frequency of care.
